At Simplex, we began managing ETFs in 2009.
Prior to that, the recognition of ETFs in the Japanese market was low, and the available ETFs were limited to simple ones tracking a handful of indices, lacking the diversity seen in overseas markets. At that time, we actively utilized ETFs not only as a manager but also as an investor, and we were confident that, within a few years, ETFs would gain wider recognition in the Japanese market, just as they had overseas. Simultaneously, we recognized the need for greater product diversification to achieve this.
In August 2009, we became the first independent Japanese asset manager to launch an ETF, listing "Simplex WTI ETF" (Code: 1671) in a market that had been heavily skewed toward Japanese equities. Marking this milestone, we set a goal of developing and managing ETFs that meet investors’ needs. Today, we manage both index and active ETFs.
